Course
Objectives:To
provide the student with a marketable
skill upon completion of the prescribed
course and to prepare the student to pass
the State Board Examination and become
a licensed Cosmetologist in the State
of Georgia.
Upon
completion of the course, the student
shall have demonstrated competencies required
to pass the State Board Exam, and the
ability to:
1.
Understand the science of professional
hair care.
2.
Identify the composition of the skin and
to provide the client with professional
skin care services.
3.
Identify the properties and characteristics
of the hair.
4.
Analyze the patron's hair and apply the
techniques of a permanent wave, or chemical
hair re-laxer.
5.
Understand the elevations and designs
of hair cutting.
6.
Understand the components of natural hair
color and the effects of tints and color
molecules when applying hair coloring.
7.
Understand the composition of the nails,
disorders and diseases, and the practical
application of artificial nails, manicuring
and pedicure.
8.
Demonstrates the practical application
of artificial nails, as well as the proper
techniques of a manicure and pedicure.
The Cosmetology Course is
a 1500 hour program covering a period of ten (10)
to twelve (12) months for full-time attendance.
Full-time students attend school approximately
30 hours per week. The standard
full-time schedule is Wednesday through Saturday,
8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday
from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for any special
tutoring needs or to meet our satisfactory academic
progress requirements and any make-up hours needed
or desired.
Part-time attendance and night attendance cover
the 1500 hour cosmetology course in approximately
24 months. Part-time students attend school approximately
15 hours per week. A standard
part-time schedule is Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from
8:30 a.m. until 3:30 pm. We also open on Monday
and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and
Wednesday - Thursday from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30
p.m. for our part-time students for any special
tutoring needs or to meet our satisfactory academic
progress requirements and any make-up hours needed
or desired.
Cosmetology:
A study of the basic principles of Cosmetology
that include a basic understanding of the chemistry
of the skins and hair, as well as the practical
application.
The Cosmetology course
is a well-rounded program covering all phases
of cosmetology, preparing the student for a career
as a Licensed Cosmetologist or a career in a related
field. The College's approach to training used
by the school is based on sound educational methods
and teaching fundamentals.
The first portion of the Cosmetology course is
spent in the theory classroom and the manikin
room where training includes lectures, demonstrations,
and practice in molding, pin curl patterns, roller
placements, permanent waving, hair shaping, hair
coloring and the chemistry of the hair.
In the second portion of the cosmetology course,
the student is introduced to the clinic floor
where the student exercises the knowledge gained
during the first portion of training. It is through
applied knowledge that the necessary experience
and comprehension of cosmetology can develop.
Therefore, the student is scheduled for classroom
theory as well as clinic floor instruction for
the duration of the course.
All subject matter is presented in the form of
instructor lecture, class assignments, videotape
presentations, hands-on demonstrations, class
discussion, and projects. Instruction will also
be complemented with lectures from guest artists,
product representatives and salon owners or managers.

Curriculum:
Course Description, Objectives & Outline Nail Technology
The Nail Technology Course
is a 600 hour program covering a period of approximately
five (5) to six (6) months for full-time attendance.
Full-time students attend 35 to 40 hours per week.
The standard full-time schedule
is Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm.
Part-time students cover the 600 hour nail technology
course in approximately ten (10) to twelve (12)
months. Part-time students attend 12 to 20 hours
per week. The standard part-time
schedule is Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from
4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30
a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Nail
Technology :
A study of the basic principles of manicuring
that include a basic understanding of the hands
and feet, as well as the practical application
of artificial nails.
The Nail Technology program prepares a person
with the necessary manicuring and pedicure skills
necessary for employment in a beauty salon or
a nail shop. The course is a well-rounded program
covering all phases of manicuring, pedicure and
artificial nails, preparing the student for a
career as a Licensed Nail Technician or a career
in a related field. Training includes lecture,
hands-on demonstration and student participation.
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of manicuring
and pedicure theory, and their application ability
through the completion of the required practical
and clinic activities. Instruction will be supplemented
with guest artist, visual aids, and other instructional
techniques.
All subject matter will be presented in the form
of instructor lecture, class assignments, videotape
presentations, hands-on demonstrations, class
discussion, and projects. Instruction will also
be complemented with guest artist product representatives
and shop owners or managers.

the State of Georgia.

completion of the course, the instructor
trainee shall have demonstrated competencies
required to pass the State Board Exam,
and the ability to:

Understand the basis knowledge and technical
skills in cosmetology as well as understanding
the educational skills necessary to become
professional educators.
2.
Relate to the professional teaching skills,
methods and techniques as well as the
technical knowledge in cosmetology and
know the difference between the two areas
of training and expertise.
The Instructor Training Course
is a study of the teaching techniques required
of licensed cosmetologists to become effective
instructors. It is currently a 750 hour course.
The development of lesson plans, teaching techniques
(practical and theory), motivation skills, class
schedules and student counseling are areas developed
in this course.

A study of the methods and teaching techniques
required for licensed cosmetologists to become
effective classroom and clinic instructors.
The Instructor Trainee Course is a well-rounded
program covering the most important phases of
skilled instruction techniques for cosmetology
and nail technology, preparing the trainee for
a career as a Licensed Cosmetology Instructor
or a career in a related field. The approach to

(practical and theory), class schedules and student
counseling are areas developed in this course.
Motivation skills are one of the required skills
for each segment of the course.
All subject matter is presented in the form of
hands-on work with students, showing them the
techniques used in developing good skills through
the different stages of the cosmetology and the
nail technology courses. Instructor trainees develop
lesson plans and use these lesson plans during
their student teaching.
